5THOSE DANG BUGLE BEADS! What to do with them...May 26, 2010
Nice full color pictures With drawn instructions. BEWARE* YOU WILL NEED many more kinds of beads to work these designs. Today most are costly and I do get mine in discount from Fire Mountain, Whim Beads and U Bead It Sacramento. The last two have awesome bugle twist beads (some new spiral twist bugles) that explode with color and will work really well for this book. My only real complaint. There is nothing like seeing real instructions worked with real hands. The other complaint is "Aren't we past the Amulet bag stage yet?"
Admittedly, these are nice, beautiful art-work and an excellent choice of colors that I will work and concert them to designs on leather pouches.
Her first book on making Cabochons was really wonderful and this book will NOT disappoint! Many projects to try and give inspiration to create your own.

Necklaces,
LOTS of COOL Bracelets,
Collars,
Earrings,
Beaded chains for eye glasses that look stylish,
Woven ring that is nice!
tasseled key chain beauties, Fringed Chokers [Picture on cover]

Which is all written directions sadly, but patients will get a visual learner like me through it. The end results are well worth the frustration. Someone who can follow written directions will have no trouble and find the end results an- awe inspiring and a beautiful item worth showing off.

I was a little disappointed with the contents of this book. I had purchased the author's previous book on cabachons and loved it. I admit - cabachons are a favorite of mine. Her current book was purchased without my being able to look through it before I made the purchase. In my opinion, bugle beads play a better supporting role in a finished piece as opposed to the main attraction. I had hoped to find more necklace styles with bugle beads - and less fringe. On the plus side - the patterns were all fairly easy to follow and I liked the color choices she worked up for many of her designs. It is amazing how a simple choice of color combinations can make or brake a piece.

I really like the ability to use elements from the designs to create my own designs

1DisapointedMar 13, 2010
I love bugle beads and have many, so I was excited to order this book. However, there was not a single project that I was excited about. Most of them had the "loving hands at home" quality--looked very homemade. For example, I haven't seen projects for beaded amulet bags for years, and these were very contrived looking. I've seen many beautiful projects with bugles-I was disapointed with this book. Wish I could return it.

The instructions are well written and easy to follow. The jewelry projects are great. A must have book for beginner beader like me. It will help your work look like a pro.
